Wildcats beat Corsicana; eighth graders split games

Sulphur Springs won both sub-varsity games played Thursday and split a pair of eighth grade contests Tuesday.

In Thursday night action at Corsicana, the ninth grade Wildcats won 24-21 in a thrilling comeback effort.

C.J. Williams had two touchdowns and Landon Fields scored once. Makaylon Rush scored the winning touchdown.

The squad converted two onside kicks for the win to improve their record to 3-4 overall.

The Sulphur Springs junior varsity held off Corsicana to take a 28-20 win at Gerald Prim Stadium.

Ty Stround threw touchdown pass to Langston Bridges and Colton Albritton. Matthew Sherman scored on a short run and threw a scoring pass to Bridges.

Bradley Futch had a sack on the Corsicana quarterback with 17 seconds left to seal the victory. Zeke Gonzales picked off a pass. Madison Martin and Beau Bankston were named standouts by coaches.

EIGHTH GRADE REPORT

In road action played Tuesday in Texarkana, the Wildcat B team lost 16-0 while the A squad took a 27-8 victory.

In the A game Brady Driver had two rushing touchdowns and 70 yards rushing. Malachi Roland totaled 80 ground yards and scored on a 65-yard jaunt. Coaches credited the Wildcat defense, offense and special teams with good play in the win.

In the B team game, Juan Garica had five solo tackles on defense and four catches for 60 yards. Jefferson Bonilla recorded three quarterback sacks and solo solo tackles.
