The UIL announced in a statement Thursday it will be extending its suspension of all UIL sanctioned events due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Texas. All contests, practices and workouts will remain suspended until further notice.

The addition of practices and rehearsals to the suspension were added on Monday.

As this time, the earliest games and contest may resume is May 4. Prior to this date, the UIL will allow schools a reasonable amount of time for rehearsals and practices to occur the release states. No timetable has been given yet on when practices and rehearsals may resume.

“We are working diligently on contingency plans to conduct state championships in each of the activities that have been suspended,” UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt said. “While the immediate future is unclear, we are committed to providing these much-desired activities to all Texas students and will prepare for all possible outcomes, including extended school closures.”

Any updates regarding when practices and contests may resume will be published in upcoming editions of the News-Telegram.
