QUNLAN—The Cumby Trojans football team traveled to Quinlan Friday for their district opener against Boles. This was the first game either team had played since early September.

The Trojans got on the board first, scoring and converting on the 2-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead. They followed it up with another eight-point second quarter, taking a 16-0 lead into the half.

Boles finally found their offense in the third quarter, scoring 12 points, but Cumby answered back with 14 points of their own, taking a 30-12 lead into the fourth quarter.

Each team scored six points in the fourth quarter, and Cumby walked away with the 36-18 road victory.

Trenton Wood led the team with 125 rushing yards on 17 carries. Just behind him was senior Jacob Demidio, who had 101 yards on 19 attempts. Justin Demidio also had a great day rushing; on just nine carries, he racked up 74 yards.

Other runners for the Trojans were Keagan McCullum, who finished with 27 yards on 10 carries, and Colton Lindsay, who picked up 3 yards on one rush.

Leading the team in receiving was Fabian Camargo, who tallied 32 yards on a pair of receptions. Jacob Demidio had one catch for 23 yards, and Colton Lindsay had one catch for 3 yards.

The Trojans defense played great, holding Boles just to just 22 yards on 36 carries, allowing less than 1 yard per attempt. The pass defense was excellent for Cumby as well, allowing Boles to complete only nine of their 39 passing attempts for 104 yards.

The Trojans look to keep the momentum going and pick up a second consecutive win this week as they travel to Maud. The Cardinals are 0-4 to open the season with three of their four losses coming by double digits.

Cumby’s first home game will be Friday, Oct. 23 against Clarksville. Both of those games are set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
