Trojans season comes to end due to COVID exposure

Forced to cancel playoff game

CUMBY- The Cumby Trojans football team announced via social media Sunday that due to exposure to COVD-19 that they were forced to cancel their playoff game against Mart. That game was scheduled for Thursday.

“Most importantly, I am truly sorry for our players. They have tremendous heart and toughness,” the post read. “They have been through a very difficult season and have shown great character and team unity. So much so, that they were able to make the playoffs.”

Cumby had a very unusual season, forced to cancel multiple games this season due to COVID-19. Cumby went 2-4 this season, and 2-3 in district play. The Trojans’ first win of the season came Oct. 9 against Quinlan Boles, where they won 36-18. Cumby also got a huge win on their homecoming night, defeating Clarksville 46-6 Oct. 23.

The Trojans played well enough that they finished fourth place in their district, earning a playoff spot. They were set to face Mart in the opening round. Mart was 9-0 this season and is currently ranked No. 1 in the state. 

“I am so proud of what these men have done this year,” the post added. “I pay for safety and health for all of our school community and a speedy recovery for all of those affected by this virus.”
