CUMBY—Every summer, fans of Texas high school football await the return of the season by reading Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine. The magainze predicts the final standings in every district, and they are very high on the Cumby Trojans this year.

New head coach Charles Boles will be taking over for a team that finished 8-4 last season and made it to the Area round of the playoffs. The Trojans return a number of key pieces, including five starters on both the offense and defense.

DCTF is predicting that the Trojans will take home the district title. Behind them they have Clarksville, who went just 5-6 last season but won three of their five district games. The Clarksville Tigers will be returning one or two more key contributors than the Trojans for the 2020 season.

In third place, they have Simms Bowie who struggled last season, finishing with a 4-7 record. The Pirates were able to make the playoffs last season and will be returning seven starters on both sides of the ball.

The back half of the district sees Maud coming in fourth place. Maud won just one district game last season. The biggest surprise might be Detroit finishing fifth. Last season the Eagles had a strong record of 7-5, going 4-1 in district play, and making it to the second round of the playoffs. Detroit has a number of key contributors returning this season, including Claude Scales who won the district defensive MVP a season ago.

Finally, the magazine predicts Quinlan Boles to round out the district. The Hornets went 1-9 a year ago and failed to win a district game.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football named Cumby running back Jacob Demidio as the Preseason Offense MVP for District 9-2A. Demidio was a catalyst in the Trojans offense last season, rushing for over 1,400 yards. The magazine named Clarksville’s Ardadrian Gray as the Preseason Defensive MVP. Gray led Clarksville’s defense with 89 tackles from the linebacker position in 2019.
