Climbed 4 spots after strong 2nd round

RICHARDSON—Sulphur Springs native Mariam Tran came in 18th place of the two-day North Texas Profession Golf Association Junior Tour event in Richardson on Thursday. Olivia Mitchell from Plano won the event, finishing with a total score of +3.

Tran opened her first round Wednesday with a pair of double bogeys on the first two holes, but recovered by only double bogeying two more holes for the rest of the day. The Sulphur Springs native found her rhythm on the back nine, shooting +4 and +1 on par 3s. Tran ended her first round with a score of +13 and in 22nd place.

Despite opening her second round Thursday with another pair of double bogeys, Tran bounced back by shooting par on the next two holes and picking up her first birdie of the event on the sixth hole. Clearly finding her rhythm, Tran excelled on the back nine, picking up another birdie on the 12th hole and shooting par on each of the final four holes.

Tran was able to improve her score by four strokes on day two, finishing with a total of 162 strokes and a final score of +22. After entering the day in 22nd place, she was able to walk away in 18th. Along with picking up a pair of birdies on day two, Tran was also able to tie for first on the day by shooting -1 on par-3s.

It was a close race that came down to the final few holes in which Olivia Mitchell from Plano was able to squeak out a one stroke win. Holliewood James from Wylie, who entered the day in first, finished one stroke behind her with a +4 finish. Mitchell was able to take the lead by shooting -1 for the round. James shot a +2 in the second day.

Adrienne Ahn of Dallas, Julia Haetzel also of Dallas, and Mackenzie Moore from Trophy Club rounded out the top five. Ahn finished with a score of +8, while Haetzel and Moore shot a +10 and +11 respectively.
