Pitchers and catchers begin workouts

Body

SURPRISE, Ariz.- The Texas Rangers officially began Spring Training Wednesday, with pitchers and catchers workouts. The Rangers full team workouts are set to begin Monday. The Spring Training roster for Texas includes:

RIGHT HANDED PITCHERS

• Matt Bush

• Kyle Cody

• Jharel Cotton

• Dane Dunning

• Demarcus Evans

• Mike Foltynewicz

• Kyle Gibson

• Jonathan Hernandez

• Jose LeClerc

• Jordan Lyles

• Cole Winn

Pitching won’t be the Rangers strong suit this season, but they do have a solid mix of veteran arms combined with prospects who might be ready to take that next step this season. Look for Mike Foltynewicz to play a big role in the starting rotation for Texas this season.

LEFT HANDED PITCHERS

• Kolby Allard

• Brock Burke

• Taylor Hearn

• Brett Martin

• Joe Palumbo

The name to watch here is Taylor Hearn. At 26 years old, the Royse City native is looking to make the starting rotation for the first time. Hearn has struggled in his limited major league action, but very well could take a huge step forward in 2021.

CATCHERS

• Drew Butera

• David Garcia

• Jonah Heim

• John Hicks

• Sam Huff

• Jose Trevino

• Matt Whatley

For the Texas Rangers, Sam Huff appears to be the catcher of the future, but what to do until he is ready to become the everyday catcher is the question. Jose Trevino looked good in limited action last season, and it will be his job to lose going into Spring Training. Jonah Heim, who the Rangers acquired from the Oakland Athletics in the Elvis Andrus trade could very well find himself fighting for regular starts as well.
