SULPHUR SPRINGS- The Sulphur Springs Wildcats hosted the Lucas Lovejoy Leopards for their home opener Friday night.

The Wildcats’ first points of the night came on a 43-yard field goal from Josh Tavera in the final minute of the first quarter to put Sulphur Springs on the board, 14-3. They would score again in the second quarter, when quarterback Kaden Wallace found tight end Carson Fenton for a 12-yard touchdown pass to make the score 24-10.

The Wildcats got the ball to open the second half and put a strong drive together that resulted in another field goal from Tavera, this one for 28 yards. Lovejoy would add another 21 points in the second half, and walked away with the 48-13 victory.

The loss makes the Wildcats 0-2 to open their season. They will look to pick up their first win next week in their homecoming match against Hallsville.
