SULPHUR BLUFF- The Sulphur Bluff Bears junior high basketball team opened their season with a bang, defending their home court with a blowout win on Monday.

It was a rough first quarter for the Bears, managing to score just five points while allowing Fruitvale to score 10 points. They found their offense in the second quarter, however, outscoring Fruitvale 12-6, to take a one-point lead into halftime.

The second half is when Sulphur Bluff started to pull away, allowing Fruitvale to score just one point in the third quarter, while racking up 16 points of their own in the frame.

The Bears didn’t stop there, they outscored Fruitvale 19-4 in the fourth quarter, wining the game by a score of 52-21.

Ayden Johnson had a spectacular game for Sulphur Bluff, outscoring his opponents and posting 27 points in the win. Braxtun Espinosa had a strong game as well, finishing with 13 points.

Other scorers for the Bears were Jaydon Carrell with five points, Tyson Collins and Brock Gunn, who each had 3 points, and Evan Carr who had one point.

The Bears will play at home again on Monday, hosting Yantis. The Girls B team is set to begin at 4 p.m. with the Boys B team, Girls A team, and Boys A team all to follow.
