Sulphur Springs ISD announced late Thursday their homecoming game against Hallsville on Friday had been canceled. The Wildcats were hoping to pick up their first win of the season after losing their first two games to Frisco Wakeland and Lovejoy.

All tickets purchased for Friday’s game will be refunded automatically over the next few business days. Anyone having purchased a ticket who does receive a refund by Tuesday, Oct. 13, is asked to call Marci Owens at 903-885-2153.

Despite the homecoming game being canceled, programs for the game are still available to purchase for $5. This week’s program includes the headshots of this year’s homecoming nominees. Contact Kaley Williams at kaley.williams@ssisd.net for more information.

The Wildcats are scheduled to be in district play next week when they travel to Crandall to take on the Pirates, who are currently 1-1 to start the season. Crandall won their season opener against Jacksonville, 38-25, and lost to Pine Tree the next week, 63-28.

The next home game for Sulphur Springs is Friday, Oct. 23 against Ennis. Ennis was picked by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine to win District 8-5A, and their defensive end, Jarveon Williams, was their pick for preseason defensive MVP.
