SSMS girls win 2 matches

The Sulphur Springs Middle School Lady Cat volleyball team won two of three matches in Saturday’s tournament play at Mount Pleasant. The Lady Cats won over Prariland, 25-22 and 25-13 and defeated North Lamar in a three-set thriller, 25-12, 17-25 and 13-5. In the championship game, the Lady Cats lost to Como-Pickton in two sets. No scores were reported.

Sulphur Bluff drops match

The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears lost a big district volleyball game in five sets against Detroit. Sulphur Bluff lost by scores of 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 21-25 and 7-15. Ann Dorner led the way as the net with 17 kills. Other standouts for Sulphur Bluff included: Alley Collett, 41 assists, 11 service points, two kills; Tori Raine, 13 service points, eight kills and one assist; Hannah Byrd, 9 points; Dalena diDonato added 11 kills, 7 points and one kill; and Angel Brown with 32 digs and 4 service points.

Miller Grove ends fall season

The Miller Grove junior high baseball team won 15-8 in Sept. 30 baseball play. The Hornets played in tournament action Thursday, Oct. 5. They posted a 2-1 win over North Hopkins and defeated Saltillo, 4-1.

Cumby defeats Yantis, 3-0

The Cumby Lady Trojans won 3-0 over Yantis in district play Tuesday. Cumby won by scores of 25-11, 25-8 and 25-13. Heather McCraw had six kills in the win. Erin Morgan was tops with 13 assists. Top server was Tatum White with 10 aces.
