Cumby falls to Grapeland in Area 54-22

After defeating Bowie 50-28 for the Bi-District title last week, Cumby went into the Area round against Grapeland in Bullard raring for more, but they would fall in a 54-22 rout against the Sandies.

The Trojans streak of four wins comes to an end, and they fall to 8-4 for the season. Grapeland goes to 10-2 and faces Mart in regional action Friday.

Sulphur Springs varsity boys to take on Byron Nelson

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats basketball will travel today to Trophy Club, Texas to face the Byron Nelson Bobcats at 1 p.m.

The Wildcats sit at 2-0 overall while the Bobcats are currently 1-2. The Wildcats saw a narrow 73-71 win over Decatur at North Crowley High School Nov. 16 and a 102-52 rout of Pleasant Grove Nov. 19.

The Bobcat’s only win was against Shoemaker in their first game of the Justin Northwest Tournament in which they also drew two losses against Horn (63-50) and Memorial (63-42).

Sulphur Bluff volleyball receives All-District awards

Eight Sulphur Bluff volleyball girls received All-District awards for a combination of their athletic and academic talent in a Monday announcement.

Freshman Skylar Stanley received Newcomer of the Year, and senior Ann Dorner was named to All-District First Team. Senior Cierra Johnson and junior Alley Collett were both named to the All-District Second Team. Seniors Dalena di Donata and Angel Brown both received honorable mentions.

The following players received Academic All-District awards: Angel Brown, Ann Dorner, Dalena di Donato, Cierra Johnson, Alley Collett, Jada Wade, Tori Raine, Hannah Byrd and Skylar Stanley.
