The Sulphur Springs football season will come to an end Friday with Senior Night set against North Forney.

“Getting to honor the seniors before their last home game is a big deal. It’s fun too, and it can get emotional,” said Greg Owens, Wildcats head coach.

Owens and several members of his staff are Sulphur Springs High School graduates.

“The kids are super charged up to play one last home game. Family comes in to see them. It’s been enjoyable for me, and most the time the team play well. It’s just a unique time,” the coach said.

Senior activities will begin prior to the 7:30 p.m. district game.

Owens said North Forney has still got a chance for a playoff berth, so the 10th game of the year does have a lot on the line.

The Wildcats at 1-8 overall and 1-6 in district are out of the playoff race.

The Falcons fly into Gerald Prim Stadium with an eye toward securing a postseason berth with a win over the Wildcats. North Forney is 6-3 on the season, 4-3 in District 8-5A action this year.

The Falcons were picked third in the district in pre-season publications after going 4-6 last year. They have five offensive and five defensive starters back from that club.

The season for North Forney has been a series of streaks. The Falcons won the first three games of the year. They took a 45-24 win over Frisco Heritage, then rolled over Wylie East, 55-7, and hammered rival football Forney, 57-10.

Then hard times came, and North Forney dropped three games in a row.

They were clipped by Ennis, 33-14, edged by Corsicana, 27-24, and lost in a shootout to Greenville, 49-38.

North Forney has since won three consecutive games. The Falcons downed Kaufman, 48-20, won over Terrell, 50-28, and defeated Royse City, 49-39.

North Forney has been installed as 25-point favorite over Sulphur Springs.

The Wildcats are coming off a 28-24 road loss to Kaufman.

“I believe Sulphur Springs creates some problems for us. They have a creative offensive scheme and two tough to tackle running backs. Defensively, they swarm to the ball and play hard. We will have to do a good job blocking to move the ball,” said Randy Jackson, North Forney head football coach. “Sulphur Springs is a typical Greg Owens-coached team. They are disciplined, fundamentally sound, play hard and don’t beat themselves.”
