Saltillo splits recent games

The Saltillo varsity girls and boys split recent basketball games.

In Monday home competition the Lady Lions JV won, 35-15 over Celeste.

Danielle Ross was the top scorer with 14. Others include: Trinity White, 8; McKenna Gurley, 7; Brianna Tawil, Reagan Spier, Ofelia Cabrera and Biana Castro, 2 points each.

Celeste won the varsity game, 47-38. Chandler Bain had high points honors with 15. Other scorers were: Brittney Peeples, 10; Jocelyn Ochoa, 6; Lorena Castro, 4; Anna Reeder and Maddy Smith, 2 each.

In boys action Monday, the Lions were downed, 74-63 by Liberty-Eylau despite Chris Boekhort scoring 24 points. Matthew Gurley added 17; Ben Moore, 9; Levi Hoover and Edi Olayo, 5 each; Andrew Redburn added 4 points.

The Saltillo boys JV fell by a 37-12 final. Scorers were: Jayden Holloway, 8; Keith Hirkland and Antonio Brown scored 2 apiece.

Saltillo won the Tuesday boys home varsity game over Como-Pickton, 50-32. 

Boekhorst led the way with 20; Gurley scored 12; Moore, 5; Hoover, 4; Redburn, 3; and Olayo, 2 points.

The Como-Pickton junior varsity team won, 37-26. Scorers for Saltillo were: Holloway with 15; Stephen Marroquin, 6; Cale Hoover, 4; and Antonio Brown, 1 point.

The Saltillo girls JV won 29-10 over Rivercrest in the Rivercrest Classic on Tuesday.

Scorers include: Ross, 14;?Tawil, 6; Spier, 4; McKenna Gurley, 3; and Castro, 2 points.

 

Miller Grove scores reported

The Hornets took the lead early and held on for a 59-52 varsity boys basketball win over Campbell Monday.

Isaiah Billingsley scored 21 to pace Miller Grove. Other scorers were: Kobe Robertson with 12 and Treyron Andree, 10; Matt Brignon had 6 with Grant Sharp and Grant Earp scoring 5 each.

Also on Monday, the Lady Hornets split varsity girls basketball games.

Miller Grove won 38-17 over James Bowie. Jorja Bessonett scored 13 points. Other scorers were: Harli Watson, 9; Rosa Schones, 8; Cassidy Seaney, 6; and Alexa Pelerose added 2 points.

Miller Grove’s JV won 21-4 over James Bowie. Scorers included: Layni Burnett, 8; Kayli Brignon, 6; Summer Coker, 5; and Addison Stanton, 2 points.

Campbell scored a 64-37 win over the MG varsity girls in other recent action. Schones paced the Lady Hornets with 12; Watson and Kamryn Hall scored 8 each; Pelerose, 5; Bessonett and Lauren Bullard scored 2 each.

Miller Grove fell Campbell’s junior varsity, 23-21. Scorers for MG include: Brignon, 8; Burnett, 5; and 4 each from Kaley Dorantes and Stanton.

In Tuesday boys’ competition, the Hornets were edged 52-48 by the Tyler Heat.

Robertson was high point with 20 for Miller Grove. Other scorers were: Billingsley, 15; Sharp, 8; Earp, 3; and Andree with 2 points.
