District broken up into 2 zones

Body

Due to multiple teams forced into quarantine in District 8-5A, the district has decided to go to a zone schedule with the top two teams in each zone advancing to the playoffs.

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats have been placed into a zone with Corsicana, Greenville and North Forney. The other zone will consist of Crandall, Ennis, Forney and Royse City.

Sulphur Springs schedule has modified due to this change. Rather than traveling to Royse City Friday, Oct. 30 they will be hosting North Forney, a game that was originally scheduled for Dec. 4.

The Wildcats next two games will be as regularly scheduled. They host Corsicana Nov. 6 and travel to Greenville Nov. 13.

The week of Nov. 20, when they were scheduled to face Forney, is now designated for zone seeding games.

“There are still decisions to be made and hopefully more games to be played, but this schedule will get our district through the next three weeks,” Coach Greg Owens said.

The Wildcats are now preparing to host North Forney Friday. The North Forney Falcons are 4-0 to start the year, winning all but one of their games by double digits. The Falcons have scored 30 or more points in all of their games this season.

As for the other two teams in the zone, the Corsicana Tigers are 1-3 this year, winning their last three consecutive games. Their one win of the season came in their season opener against The Colony. The Greenville Lions are 2-1 and have yet to play a district game, picking up wins against Henderson and Mount Pleasant.

North Forney is currently ranked No. 5 in the state, according to Harris Ratings Weekly. Greenville is ranked No. 19 with neither Corsicana nor Sulphur Springs placed in the top 25. Ennis is the only school in the other zone that is currently inside the top 25, coming in at No. 1.
