NORTH HOPKINS — The North Hopkins varsity girls and boys defended home court in a pair of Homecoming wins over the Campbell Indians Friday night. The girls glided to a 30-24 win, while the boys topped it off with a 53-35 win.

The varsity girls started hot in the first quarter, putting up a 9-0 run on Campbell. They ended the quarter on a 3-pointer, making their lead 14-4.

Neither team could find their offensive footing in the second quarter, as the Lady Panthers only put up 2 points to Campbell’s 1, and the game went into halftime, 16-5.

The second half was a testament to Campbell’s effort. They scored 19 points in both quarters to the Lady Panthers’ 14, but the Panthers emerged victorious, 30-24.

In the varsity boys’ game, the first half proved to be close, ending 24-14 for the Panthers, but then North Hopkins found their offense in the third quarter, going on an 11-0 run after a single Campbell goal to make the score 37-16. The third quarter closed at 39-20.

Campbell did not allow any more large runs in the fourth quarter, neither did they put up any significant runs of their own, only denting their deficit by 1 point. The Panthers dominated, 53-35.

Both teams face the district favorite Martin’s Mill Tuesday night with the junior varsity games starting at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity games starting afterward.

In the girl’s last matchup against the Lady Mustangs, they lost the away game 93-12 and scored no points in the first half. For the boys, this will be their first time this season facing Martin’s Mill, who are currently undefeated and stand at No. 1 in Class 2A, according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
