SALTILLO — The Saltillo Lions hosted Union Hill Tuesday night in a game they won, 66-39.

The now-No. 18-ranked Lions got off to a hot start, posting 22 points in the first quarter. Union Hill had their highest-scoring quarter of the night with 15 points in the first frame.

The Lions defense stepped up in the second quarter, holding Union Hill to just 4 points. Saltillo scored 16 points to give them a 38-19 lead at the half.

Saltillo opened the second half with another 20-point effort in the third quarter, outscoring Union Hill, 20-9, to give extend their lead to 30 points.

Union Hill outscored Saltillo for the first time all night in the fourth quarter, but Saltillo still walked away with the win, 66-39.

Chris Boekhorst added to his impressive campaign with 28 points. Gunner Tarver and Andrew Redburn each finished in double digits as well, scoring 16 and 12 points, respectively. Other scorers for the Lions were Dillon Beadle with 5 points; Coy Collins, 2; and Colby McCoy, 2.

The win makes Saltillo 24-4 on the season and 5-0 in district play. Look for the results of Friday night’s game against Avinger in Tuesday’s edition of the News-Telegram.
