The North Texas Professional Golf Association Jr. Tour made a stop in Sulphur Springs Thursday. Multiple Sulphur Springs natives played in the tournament which was held at the Sulphur Springs Country Club.

Kipper “Kip” Childress of Sulphur Springs finished with the best score of anyone in the tournament. Taking first place in the Boys 15-18 division, he posted an official score of just 1 over par. Childress played a back and forth match with his grouping partner Hunter Pratt of Plano.

Both Childress and Pratt were 2 under par entering the back nine. Things stayed close the rest of the way, as Childress finished the event, beating Pratt by one stroke.

Also from Sulphur Springs in the Boys 15- 18 division was Grant Mohesky. Mohesky took fourth place, ended the day 8 strokes over par. Mohesky had a strong start, entering the back nine at 2 over par but was unable to keep that pace through the back half.

The Girls 15-18 division was also won by a Sulphur Springs native, Mariam Tran, who won the division by an astounding 9 strokes. Tran had a very consistent day, shooting 4 over par in the front nine and 3 over in the back nine to give her a score of 7 over par for the day. Tran led her division by shooting par on 12 of the 18 holes. Tran also had one birdie which came on the 11th hole.

Although nobody came close to competing with Tran, there was a tight race for second place. Katherine Havens of Lindale was able to squeak past Jolene MeHard of Crandall. Havens was able to take home second place, finishing 18 over par and beating MeHarg by one stroke.

McKenna Meskimen of Sulphur Springs took home second place in the Girls 13-14 division. Meskimen shot 15 over par for the day and have a very strong back nine in which she shot just 6 over. Meskimen finished four strokes behind Rosalie Halle from Tyler.

Finally, in the Boys 11-12 division, Sulphur Springs’ own Tatum Tran came in second place. Tran started the day shooting 7 over in the front nine. The back nine was a bit more difficult, and he finished the day with a score of 17 over. Joseph Diemont from Allen finished one stroke ahead of Tran and won the division.

Each of the five participants from Sulphur Springs finished in the top half of their respective divisions.
