Grant Mohesky, Tatum Tran and Mariam Tran, all of Sulphur Springs, recently qualified for the Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour Ewing Automotive Summer Series Championship to be held at Brookhaven Country Club next week.

All three junior golfers were invited to the East Area Championship at The Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater based upon their standings after playing in earlier summer tournaments.

Mohesky finished fifth in the boys 15-18 medalist division with a score of 80, four shots off the lead.

Mariam Tran posted a score of 86, finishing in second place in the girls 15-18 medalist division.

Tatum Tran tied for third place with a score of 50 in the boys 12-12 prep division.

The Ewing Automotive East, Metro and West Area Championships are conducted towards the end of each summer and recognize the top junior golfers in their chapter, as well as serve as a regional qualifier for the Ewing Automotive Summer Series Championship.

The Ewing Automotive Summer Series Championship is the final tournament of the summer and one of the most prestigious Championships the Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour conducts each year. The Ewing Automotive Summer Series Championship features more than 150 of the best playing junior golfers in North Texas.

Qualifying for the Ewing Automotive Summer Series Championship is earned through the Ewing Automotive Area Championships as well as the Points Challenges throughout the year.

The tournaments will be held at Brookhaven Country Club Aug. 12-13.

The Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour is one of the largest of its kind in the country. It has a membership of approximately 4,000 junior golfers ages 7-19 and conducts over 500 tournaments annually.

Tournaments vary in their degree of competitiveness and are for junior golfers of all skill levels.

Although the NTPGA Junior Tour fosters competition, its primary goals are to grow the game of golf, continue skill development and encourage fellowship, good sportsmanship, honesty and integrity, while setting the stage for a lifetime of playing golf.
