Lady Hornets to face Trinidad Friday
Miller Grove and Sulphur Bluff faced off in a battle for Hopkins County dominance at the regional quarterfinals Tuesday night held at Sulphur Springs High School, and Miller Grove ultimately came away with a win in three sets (25-13, 25-19, 25-14).
“Our girls showed up ready to play!” Head Coach Ana Billingsley said. “We hit some spots with low momentum in the second set but we fought back to speed up the game and were able to finish. We are blessed to have the opportunity to make a Regional Tournament appearance for the 3rd year in a row!”
For Miller Grove, Alexis Green led the offense with 20 kills and was the top server with 13 aces. Top in assists was Katie Williams with 10, and she also had 8 kills. Lauren Bullard was close to Williams’s number of assists with 8, but Bullard also racked up 10 aces as well. Harli Watson and Jaylah Roberson had good defensive performances with 10 and 8 digs, respectively.
Other performances include:
- Lainy Burnett, 7 kills and 2 blocks
- Kylee Saldaña, 2 kills
Sulphur Bluff was contacted for player information but has not responded.
Miller Grove moves to 29-13 overall for the season and advances onto the regional semifinals where they will face Trinidad 5:30 p.m. Friday at Billingsley Field House in Fort Worth.
“We faced Trinidad in this round last year and were able to pull off a win,” Billingsley said. “They have some height and strong attackers so we will have to be ready to play great defense this year.”
