AVERY — A strong second half performance helped the Saltillo Lions remain undefeated in district play, defeating Avery 56-40 Friday night.
A very tightly contested first half saw Saltillo leading 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and just 24-21 at halftime.
The Lions opened the second half with their highest scoring quarter of the night, posting 18 points while only allowing Avery to score 10. This boosted the Lions’ lead from 3 points to a double-digit lead.
Avery played a much more competitive fourth quarter, but Saltillo was still able to add to their lead and walked away with the 56-40 win.
Chris Boekhorst had yet another impressive performance, leading the team with 25 points. Andrew Redburn and Gunner Tarver each had 7, Coy Collins 5 and Colby McCoy 4.
This win makes the now No. 18-ranked Lions 23-4 for the season and 4-0 in district. They will play again Tuesday, Jan. 28 at home against Union Hill starting at 5 p.m.
