UNION HILL- The Saltillo Lions traveled to Union Hill Friday for their second in a pair of district matches between the two teams this season. The Lions won the first match back on Jan. 12 by a final score of 84-27.

Hoping to duplicate that same success, the Lions struggled out of the gate, having a hard time finding their offense. Saltillo scored 13 points in the frame and allowed nine points, to take a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter the Lions offense started rolling, upping their production by five points. The defense allowed just another seven points, and they went into the locker rooms leading 31-16.

The Lions opened the second half with by far their best quarter of the night, scoring a game-high 27 points while once again only allowing seven points. In the fourth quarter the two teams matched each other and the Lions walked away with the 69-33 win.

Chris Boekhorst was the leading scorer for Saltillo, dropping an impressive 29 points. David Whitworth was the next leading man with 18 points.

Andrew Redburn and Gunner Tarver scored nine points and seven points respectively, while Colton McGill and Colby McCoy each had three points.

The win makes the Lions 15-7 on the season and keeps them unbeaten in district play at 8-0.

The junior varsity team picked up a win for Saltillo as well, after trailing at the end of the first quarter. The Lions outscored Union Hill 22-12 in the middle frames and pulled out the 35-23 win. Luke Ritter, Jacob Sexton and Caden McGill led the way, posting 12 points, 11 points and 10 points respectively. Cristian Trejo finished with two points and Josh Butler had one point.

The Lions travel to Sulphur Bluff Friday for their regular season finale. The junior varsity boys begin at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
