YANTIS- The Saltillo Lions traveled to Yantis Tuesday for their second district game of the season. The Lions won their district opener back on Dec. 15, beating Bloomburg in a 59-8 blowout.

Saltillo opened Tuesday’s match, looking to do the same thing, getting out to a huge 24-3 lead. Yantis was able to find some offense in the second quarter, putting up 14 points in the frame, but the Lions still led 48-17 at the end of the first half.

Saltillo had their highest scoring quarter of the night to open the second half, scoring 28 points while only allowing nine points. Yantis was able to outscore the Lions for the first time in the fourth quarter, but the Lions still won the game by a commanding final score of 80-46.

Andrew Redburn was the leading scorer for Saltillo, posting an impressive 26-point performance. This was the second straight game Redburn has led the team in scoring, after putting up 17 points in their three-point loss to Hooks last week.

The Lions had two other players finish in double-digits, Chris Boekhorst who finished with 19 points and David Whitworth with 13 points. Other scorers for Saltillo were Coy Collins, Gunner Tarver and Colton McGill. Collins and Tarver each had nine points, while McGill finished with eight points.

The win improves the Lions record to 7-8 on the year, while remaining undefeated in district play with a 2-0 record. Saltillo will be back in action with a pair of district matches next week. They host Union Hill Tuesday and travel to Avery Friday. In both games the junior var sity boys will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity girls and varsity boys to follow.
