SULPHUR BLUFF — The Saltillo Lions went to Sulphur Bluff Friday night for their second district game against the Bears. They won the first matchup on Jan. 21, 54-35.

The Lions got off to a strong start, scoring 24 points in the first quarter while allowing only 7. Sulphur Bluff was able to find their offense in the second quarter, though. They posted 21 points in the frame and outscored Saltillo, 21-16. The Lions led, 40-28, at the half.

Saltillo opened the second half for a strong third quarter, posting their second highest scoring quarter of the night with 18 points. Sulphur Bluff was able to mange only 10 points in the frame, and Saltillo pushed their lead to 58-38.

In the final quarter Sulphur Bluff outscored Saltillo 14-10, but it wasn’t enough. Saltillo walked away with the 68-52 win.

Chris Boekhorst led the way, adding to his impressive season with a 26-point performance. Gunner Tarver and Andrew Redburn finished with 15 points each. Other scorers for the Lions were Colby McCoy, 5, Coy Collins, 4, and Dillon Beadle, 3.

This win improves Saltillo’s record to 27-4 on the season and 8-0 in district play. They play again Tuesday, Feb. 11 with the JV starting at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
