SALTILLO — The Saltillo Lions defended their home court Friday night with a 49-43 win over Wolfe City.

The Lions got off to a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

After a back-and-forth second quarter with neither team taking much of an advantage, the Lions led 24-20 at the end of the first half.

The second half saw both teams get off to a bit of a slow start, but the Lions found their offense and went on a 8-0 run to extend their lead from 26-22 to 34-22.

Neither team did much in the final minutes of the third quarter, and Saltillo entered the fourth quarter up 36-26.

Wolfe City opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run in the first two minutes, cutting the deficit to 36-33, but Saltillo fought them off and never let the game get any closer than that.

The Lions made the most out of their free throw opportunities, shooting 20-24 for the game and were able to ice the game away, winning 49-43.

Chris Boekhorst led the team with 20 points, Andrew Reburn and Dillon Beadle each had 8, Gunner Tarver 7, Coy Collins 5, and Colby McCoy had 4.
