MCLEOD - The Saltillo Lions traveled to McLeod Saturday for one of their final non-district matches of the season. The Lions entered the game, hoping to get back in the win column for the first time since their Dec. 11 win over the Commerce junior varsity.

Saltillo got off to a very strong start, outscoring McLeod 17-11 in the opening frame. The Lions offense was nowhere to be found in the second and third quarters, however, scoring just nine points between the two frames combined.

Saltillo finished with a much stronger fourth quarter, but weren’t able to make up for the damage done in the middle frames, and fell by a final score of 57-40.

Chris Boekhorst was the leading scorer for the Lions in their 17-point loss, finishing with 19 points. The next leading scorer for Saltillo was David Whitworth who ended with eight points.

Andrew Redburn and Coy Collins were just behind him, with six points and four points respectively. Colton McGill also scored for the Lions, finishing with three points.

The loss makes Saltillo’s record 3-6 to start the season. The Lions will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 29 to host North Hopkins at 7:30 p.m.
