HOOKS- The Saltillo Lions traveled to Hooks Saturday for their final non-district match of the season. After getting off to a slow start, the Lions entered the day riding a three-game winning streak.

The two teams started with an explosive opening frame, with the Lions taking a slight advantage, leading 20-19 at the end of the first quarter. It was the highest scoring frame of the day for both teams.

Hooks stayed in the game, outscoring Saltillo 14-12 in the second quarter to take a 33-32 lead at the end of the first half.

The Lions were able to take their lead back, however, in the third quarter, outscoring Hooks 13-10 in the frame. Leading 45-43 entering the fourth quarter, Saltillo’s offense fell flat in the final frame, and Hooks was able to take the game by a final score of 53-50.

Andrew Redburn was the leading scorer for the Lions, finishing with 17 points in the game. Chris Boekhorst wasn’t far behind, adding 12 points of his own. Other scorers for the Lions were David Whitworth with nine points and Coy Collins with three points.

The loss drops the Lions record to 6-8 on the season. Despite the 6-8 record, Saltillo has won five of their last eight games, including their district opener against Bloomburg that they won by a score of 59-8.

The Lions return home Friday for a district game against Avinger. The junior varsity boys are set to begin at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity girls and varsity boys teams to follow.
