SALTILLO- The Saltillo Lions hosted Bloomburg Friday looking to improve their district record to 7-0. The Lions entered the day as winners in each of their last six games, with their last loss being to Hooks Jan. 2.

Saltillo had a huge opening quarter, with their offense firing on all cylinders, posting 31 points in the frame. Bloomburg was only able to score seven points, and the Lions were able to play with a huge lead for the rest of the game.

In the second quarter Saltillo had their lowest output of the night, but they were still able to add another five points to their lead, taking a 47-18 lead at the half.

The Lions came out in the third quarter and went right back to work, posting another 20-point frame. Bloomburg had their highest scoring quarter of the game in the third quarter with 12 points. Saltillo outscored Bloomburg 17-11 in the final frame, and walked away with a 84-41 win.

Andrew Redburn was the leading scorer for Saltillo, finishing with an impressive 30-point outing. Chris Boekhorst and Gunner Tarver each finished in double-digits, posting 13 points and 11 points respectively.

David Whitworth and Landon Gilbreath each had eight points, while Caden McGill had six points, Coy Collins and Ridge Johnson each had three points and Colby McCoy had two points.

The win improved Salltillo’s record to 12-7 on the season and kept them undefeated in district with a 7-0 record.

The Saltillo junior varsity played as well, as they hosted the Harts Bluff varsity team. Saltillo had a huge first half, leading 20-3 at the end of the second quarter. They added on to their lead in the second half, walking away with a 45-14 win.

Ethan White was the leading man as he has been for the Saltillo junior varsity all season, finishing with 14 points in the game. Caden McGill and Luke Ritter were behind him with seven points, while Jacob Sexton had six points. Other scorers for Saltillo were Cristian Trejo and Josh Butler with five points and Landon Gilbreath with one point.

Saltillo will return home Friday to host Yantis for their homecoming game. The varsity girls are set to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity boys to follow.
