Talley’s gone deep twice, Hammond once

The Cumby Lady Trojans sit with a 6-0 record as they wait for UIL to resume contests. The Lady Trojans opened their season Feb. 25 with a 12-6 win against Detroit.

Neely Hammond got the win, going five innings on the mound, allowing no runs and just one hit while striking out eight. Savannah Kurn had the only multi-hit game, going two for four, while scoring four times.

Next, the Lady Trojans hosted Wolfe City for their home opener March 2. Cumby got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Hammond went the entire seven innings in this one, allowing one run, which wasn’t earned on two hits. Hammond struck out 18 batters in the game and helped herself out on offense by hitting a home run. Carly Talley also hit her first home run of the season in the 9-1 win.

With just two preseason games played, the Lady Trojans went into the Detroit Tournament March 6. Cumby had just one game that day in which they defeated Bland, 9-3. Hammond had a pair of doubles in the game and picked up another complete game win.

The Lady Trojans played in three games March 7, blowing out Savoy in the fist game, 15-0. Talley was the winner in this one, racking up 10 strikeouts and only allowing one hit.

In their second game of the day, Cumby beat the Sulphur Springs JV team 7-4, thanks to a big five-run first inning. In their final game of the day, the Lady Trojans beat Detroit, 13-8. Cumby hit seven doubles as a team, and Talley hit her second home run of the season.

Cumby was scheduled to play Campbell Monday, March 9, but the game was rescheduled.
