Ferrell finishes with 28 assists

NORTH HOPKINS—The North Hopkins Lady Panthers hosted Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy of Mesquite Friday night for their first district match of the season.

The Lady Panthers opened the night with a very strong opening set in which they won, 25-11. Things got a little closer in the second set, but North Hopkins was able to win that one, 25-16, before completing the three-set sweep and taking the final set, 25-7.

Senior Raylee Mathis stood out in the 3-0 win, racking up 10 kills, seven aces and one block. Fellow senior Abigail Whaley stuffed the stat sheet as well, tallying seven aces, six digs and a pair of kills.

Kortni Ferrell set up her teammates all night, finishing the game with 28 assists. Ferrell also had one ace and one kill in the game. Other notables for the Lady Panthers were Selene Leon, who had seven kills and two aces, and Makayla Buchanan, who had four kills and four aces.

Molly Wiser had two kills, while Natalie Perry had one kill and Sarah Attaway, one assist.

The win makes North Hopkins 6-7 on the season. Coverage of their road matchup against Yantis on Tuesday will be published in upcoming editions of the News-Telegram. Their next game will be on Friday night at home against Chapel Hill. The freshmen team will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity and the varsity to follow.
