AVERY- The Saltillo Lady Lions traveled to Avery Friday for a rematch of their district battle from Dec. 8. The Lady Lions were looking to sweep Avery after beating them in the first match by an impressive 50-point margin.

Saltillo began the game with an impressive first quarter defensively, shutting Avery out in the opening frame. In addition, the Lady Lions were able to score 13 points of their own, giving them a quick double-digit lead.

In the second quarter Saltillo had their best frame of the night, scoring an impressive 28 points in the second quarter. Avery managed to score just four points, and the Lady Lions led 41-4 at the half.

Things slowed back down for Saltillo in the third quarter, having their lowest scoring quarter of the night with just 10 points in the frame. Their defense played at a high level again, allowing just another four points to be scored. The Lady Lions were able to take their foot off the gas a bit, and cruised to an easy 65-12 victory.

“In the first four minutes of the game we had trouble scoring,” coach Bill Giles said. “Our defense carried us through and we picked it up in the second quarter.”

Anna Reeder was the leading scorer for Saltillo, posting an impressive 20-point performance. Chandler Bain also finished in double-digits, finishing with 10 points. Other notables for the Lady Lions were Kristina Wade with eight points, Paisley Kastner with seven points, Allie Lane with four points, and Brittany Peeples and Julianna Giles who each had two points.
