UNION HILL- The Saltillo Lady Lions traveled to Union Hill Friday for their final district game of the season. The Lady Lions won the first matchup between these two teams by a final score of 79-6 back on Jan. 12.

Saltillo got off to a strong start in the game, scoring 18 points in the opening frame, while shutting Union Hill out. The Lady Lions turned around and had almost an identical second quarter, scoring 17 points while still not allowing a single point.

Saltillo came out of the locker room and opened the second half by scoring a gamehigh 20 points, to take a 55-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Union Hill was finally able to score in the final frame, as Saltillo cruised to a 67-3 victory.

Anna Reeder was the leading scorer for the Lady Lions, finishing with 21 points. Also finishing in double-digits was Chandler Bain who provided 10 points. Other notables for Saltillo were Julianna Giles with eight points, Brittany Peeples and Allie Lane who each had six points, Paisley Kastner with four points and Kristina Wade with three points.

“It was a solid defensive game,” coach Bill Giles said. “We worked on setting things up and running the offense instead of relying on transition as much.”

The win makes Saltillo 20-3 on the season and finishes off their district campaign with a perfect record of 10-0. The closest district game the Lady Lions played this season was against Bloomburg on Jan. 22 when they walked away with a 61-40 win.

Saltillo, currently ranked No. 5 in the state, hasn’t lost a game since their onepoint loss to class 2A’s No. 14 LaPoynor. The Lady Lions are 13-0 since then. Information on Saltillo’s playoff schedule will be published in upcoming editions of the News-Telegram.
