Lady Lions take down 4A Liberty-Eylau

Reeder, Bain outscore Lady Leopards

SALTILLO - The Saltillo Lady Lions continued their tough preseason schedule, with a home game against Class 4A Liberty-Eylau Monday. The Lady Lions entered the day with a 7-3 record.

Saltillo started the game the same way they’ve started a majority of their games this season, with a high scoring first quarter. The Lady Lions created 18 points on offense while holding the Lady Leopards to just seven points in the frame.

Saltillo further added to their lead in the second quarter, adding another 21 points of offense. Liberty-Eylau managed to score just 10 points in the frame, and the Lady Lions went to the locker room leading 39-17.

The Lady Leopards had their highest scoring quarter of the game to open the second half, posting 16 points the frame. The Lady Lions kept their advantage however, scoring 16 points of their own. Saltillo took their foot off the gas a bit in the final frame but still cruised to a 63-46 win.

Seniors Anna Reeder and Chandler Bain led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, outscoring Liberty-Eylau with a combined 47 points. Reeder finished the game with 25 points while Bain was right behind her with 22 points.

Fellow senior Brittney Peeples was the next leading scorer with seven points, while sophomore Allie Lane was right behind her with five points. Kristina Wade added two points of her own while Maddy Smith had one point.

“This is a big win,” Coach Bill Giles said. “We’ve played really well these last three games before the break and hope to improve on these games. We played a big tough team, and I thought we responded really well.”

The Lady Lions enter Christmas break with a 8-3 record and will resume play on Tuesday to host North Hopkins. The junior varsity is set to begin at 4 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
