QUINLAN — Both the Varsity and JV Lady Lions picked up wins at Quinlan Ford Friday night with the Varsity winning 52-26 and JV winning 36-18.

The Varsity Lady Lions got off to a big 16-8 lead in the first quarter, outscoring Quinlan Ford in each quarter. The offense slowed down a bit in the second quarter, but they still led 25-15 at the half.

Saltillo extended their lead in the third quarter, making the score 39-23, and they only allowed 3 fourth-quarter points to put the game away, winning 52-26.

Anna Reeder and Chandler Bain led the team in scoring with 23 and 15 points, respectively. Other scorers for Saltillo were Julianna Giles 4, Allie Lane 4, Maddy Smith 3 and Kristina Wade 3.

“Playing on the road against 4A Quinlan, this was a very good game for us,” Coach Bill Giles said. “We stayed intense throughout the game.”

The JV started off the same way with Saltillo leading 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. The scoring slowed down for both teams the rest of the game, with that being the highest scoring quarter for both teams.

Saltillo only allowed 11 points the rest of the game and would win 36-18.

Ofelia Cabrera led the team with 13 points, with Reagan Speir and McKenna Gurley being right behind her with 8 points each. Also scoring for Saltillo was Makensa Morris 3, Brianna Tawil 2 and Trinity white 2.

“We played really well defensively. We struggled with scoring, but coming off the break, it was expected,” Coach Dalton Herndon said. “We played shorthanded tonight, so the few we had stepped it up.”

The wins make the Varsity 18-7 and the JV 10-1 this season.

They will play again Tuesday night in their first District game at home against Avery. The JV will start at 5:30 p.m. with Varsity to follow.
