SALTILLO — The Saltillo Lady Lions continued their hot streak, winning a 16th consecutive game, as they defeated Bloomburg at home Tuesday night, 80-10.

The Lady Lions opened the game with a strong 23-point first quarter. Saltillo played as strong defensively in the frame as they did offensively, allowing Bloomburg to score just 4 points.

The Lady Lions followed that with an equally impressive second quarter, shutting out Bloomburg in the frame while tacking on another 18 points. They led 41-4 at the half.

The second half saw much of the same as the first, as Saltillo outscored Bloomburg 21-5 in the third quarter and 18-1 in the fourth.

The Lady Lions won 80-10, making it their 12th straight double-digit win.

Anna Reeder was the leading scorer with yet another 20-plus points performance, finishing with 24 points. Allie Lane and Julianna Giles each had 10. Also scoring for the Lady Lions were Chandler Bain, who had 9 points, Maddy Smith, 8, Brittney Peeples, 7, Jocelyn Ochoa, 6, Paisley Kastner, 4, and McKenna Gurley, 2.

“I’m happy with what we did defensively. We moved the ball well and played unselfish offensively,” Coach Bill Giles said. “We also honored our lone senior, Jocelyn Ochoa, tonight as well. Her leadership has been outstanding over her four years playing here and is an amazing young lady. Proud to have coached her these last four years.”

Saltillo improves to 27-7 on the season and 9-0 in district. They will play their final regular season game Friday, Feb. 7. The JV girls start at 4:30 p.m. with the JV boys, varsity girls and varsity boys to follow.
