Improve to 4-4 on the year
MILLER GROVE—The Miller Grove Lady Hornets hosted Alba-Golden Tuesday for their first game of district play. Miller Grove entered the game as winners in all three of their previous home games.
The Lady Hornets opened the game on a very cold streak, quickly finding themselves trailing 9-1. Miller Grove answered back with a 10-1 run to tie the set up at 10-10.
The set remained close, and Miller Grove was able to take a late lead, 23-22. The Lady Hornets were able to hold Alba-Golden off and took the first set, 25-23.
The momentum carried over into the second set for Miller Grove, as Lainy Burnett opened the second set with a pair of blocks to take the first two points. She continued her strong performance later with a kill, giving her team an 11-7 lead.
Things stayed tight the remainder of the set with the score being all tied up late, 20-20. With a 23-22 lead, Miller Grove scored the final two points, one on another kill from Burnett and one on an ace from Lauren Bullard, to take the set, 25-22.
Looking to complete the three-set sweep, the Lady Hornets opened the third set on a strong 8-0 run, scoring three points on ace serves from Jaylah Roberson.
Miller Grove never let their foot off the gas, never getting closer than 12-6. Burnett had one final kill in the game to give her team the 21-10 lead, and the Lady Hornets went on to put the set away, 25-12.
This win makes Miller Grove 4-0 at home this season with all four wins coming on 3-0 sweeps. The Lady Hornets will play at home again on Tuesday, against Boles with the junior varsity beginning at 5 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
