MILLER GROVE— The Miller Grove Lady Hornets hosted Terrell Tuesday for a non-district match. The Lady Hornets entered the game coming off a 3-0 win over PTAA.

Miller Grove set the tone early in the first set, scoring on the first two possessions, the second of which came on an ace from Jaylah Roberson. Lainy Burnett kept the momentum going just a few possessions later, scoring back-to-back points, on a block and a kill.

Later in the set, the Lady Hornets were able to create some separation when Kylee Saldana scored on three kills in a four-possession span. The third kill put Miller Grove ahead, 14-9, and forced Terrell to use their first timeout.

The Lady Hornets continued to add to their lead after the timeout, picking up three straight points on aces from Harli Watson to take a 22-10 lead. With the score 24-12, Burnett was able to put the set away with a kill, giving Miller Grove the first set.

The Lady Hornets struggled to open the second set, quickly finding themselves down 11-8 and having to use a timeout to try to regroup. Miller Grove immediately answered back, scoring nine consecutive points to take a 17-11 lead. Their 7-0 run was fueled by Burnett, who had three aces in that stint.

The Lady Hornets kept their foot on the gas with Roberson scoring on a pair of kills late in the set and Watson picking up another ace. They built their lead to as much as 24-15, before taking the second set, 25-17.

Miller Grove once again found themselves trailing early to open the third set, and Coach Ana Billingsley used a timeout with her team down, 13-8, to try to slow Terrell’s momentum down. Out of the timeout, Saldana scored on a kill, and the Lady Hornets went on a 8-3 run to tie the set up at 16-16.

In the final possessions of the set, Miller Grove’s Lauren Bullard went on a strong run, picking up three aces to create some separation for her team. The Lady Hornets were able to take the set, 25-19, completing the three-set sweep.

This win is the second consecutive for Miller Grove, both of which they won in straight sets.
