Lady Cats take second in tourney

WILLS POINT — The Lady Cats scored a big win over a rival, but came up short in the finals. Sulphur Springs lost 17-25, 15-25 to Commerce in the championship round Saturday in the 2019 Hardman/Watson Varsity Volleyball Tournament. In the semifinals, Sulphur Springs won 25-14 and 25-13 over longtime district foe Texas High. Also in the semifinals, the Lady Cats beat the host school Wills Point, 25-14 and 25-21. Bailey Dorner, Lady Cats head coach, reported that Sadie Washburn led the team in kills with 29; Brooklyn Burnside had 24; Peyton Hammack paced the team in assists. The Lady Cats, now 10-5 on the year, return to the road. They play at Forney Tuesday at 6 p.m. and will be involved in the Edgewood Tournament Thursday and Saturday.
