Sulphur Springs | Basketball

Sulphur Springs basketball teams haven't played a game yet, but they are drawing notice.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Lady Cats are currently conducting after-school workouts under head coach Brittney Tisdell.

Returning starters include: Kate Womack, Colbria Harrison, Nylan Lindley and Latavia Smith.

"We want to be the best defensive team and the most conditioned team," Tisdell said.

The team will open play Nov. 9 at McKinney Boyd.

BOYS BASKETBALL

The Wildcats drew attention from around the state last year. They finished 29-9 and earned a berth in the state tournament.

The Wildcats were listed as the No. 5 ranked team in the Class 5A boys poll by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

"We are excited and honored to be ranked No. 5 in the state. It's a testament to how hard our kids have worked year-in and year-out. That was my goal when coming to Sulphur Springs, to build a program that was consistently competitive every year and state-recognized year-in year-out," said Clark Cipoletta, Wildcats head coach.

The Wildcats begin workouts Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Players returning include: Sadaidriene Hall, Cameron Kahn, Boo Wilkerson, Grayson McClure, Lamondrick Johnson and Justin Haire.
