Volleyball Wrap-up

The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats lost Thursday in a five-set thriller against Forney in Class 5A area playoff action.

Other teams in the area Sulphur Bluff, North Hopkins. Cumby and Miller Grove took wins.

SULPHUR SPRINGS

The Lady Cats took a 2-0 lead in games, much to the delight of their fans, in playoff action at Canton High School.

The Lady Cats won 25-22 in the first set and edged out a 29-27 win to post a 2-0 advantage.

Key kills came from Sadie Washburn, Erika VanBenthem, Brooklyn Burnside and Sydney Washburn. Parris Pickett, Aliyah Abron, Czehla Moya and Peyton Ham-mack made key serves.

The entire match hinged on the third set.

Sulphur Springs stayed close for a while with the Lady Rabbits holding a 9-7 lead halfway through.

Forney got hot, closing out with 11 straight points to win 25-11.

The Lady Jackrabbits won the third set, 25-19, and edged the Lady Cats, 15-11, in the fifth set.

Sulphur Springs finishes the year at 24-18.

The Lady Cats advanced to the playoffs as a No. 4 seed and downed No. 1 ranked Hallsville in area play before the loss to Forney.

SULPHUR BLUFF

In Tuesday action at Harts Bluff, the bi-district title for Region 3 went to Sulphur Bluff.

The Lady Bears won 3-0 over Yantis in playoff match.

The win was the 20th of the season for the squad coached by Zandra Peyton. The Lady Bears won by scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-12.

"Top players for the Lady Bears were Alley Collett with 25 service points and 16 assists, Ann Dorner with 6 service points and six kills, Jada Wade with 8 service points and four kills, Skylar Stanley had 6 service points and two blocks, and Dalena di Donato had great serves with 5 points, three were aces.

Sulphur Bluff will advance to the Regional Quarterfinals round to face Miller Grove Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in Sulphur Springs.

MILLER GROVE

Miller Grove won over Union Hill in Thursday action by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-7.

Miller Grove plays Sulphur Bluff Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Sulphur Springs High School.

NORTH HOPKINS

The Lady Panthers rolled to a 3-0 win over Rivercrest by scores of 25-9, 25-16 and 27-25 in area playoff competition in Mount Vernon on Tuesday.

Standouts were Raylee Mathis with 23 kills and five blocks, and Kortni Ferrell contributed 10 assists and two aces.

The Lady Panthers however lost to Hawkins Thursday night in four sets.

CUMBY

The Lady Trojans won over James Bowie 3-0 in volleyball playoff competition on Tuesday.

They will meet Beck-ville at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lindale in the area round.
