The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats hosted Texas High Friday, looking to even the season series with them. Texas High won the first match back on Dec. 15 by a final score of 48-35.

The Lady Cats got off to a slow start offensively, with Bre’Asia Ivery scoring the only Sulphur Springs points of the frame on a steal that she turned into a layup on the other hand. Texas High was able to score eight points in the frame, giving themselves a six-point lead entering the second quarter.

Ivery kept her strong play going in the second quarter, picking up an assist on the opening possession, and making another layup a few minutes later.

The Lady Cats fought hard the entire quarter, and took their first lead of the game with 2:11 left in the half when Dalanee Myles scored on an offensive rebound to go ahead 19-18. Each team scored on more time, with the final bucket of the half coming on a layup from sophomore Kenzie Willis to take a 21-20 lead at the half.

Ivery scored on yet another steal turned layup to open the third quarter, and senior Nylah Lindley followed with six straight points, forcing Texas High to use a timeout with the Lady Cats lead up to 29-21.

Lindley made another layup in the frame, and Myles added three more points at the end of the quarter, making a layup while also drawing a foul. Texas High scored in the final minute of the frame, but Sulphur Springs was able to take a 37-26 lead into the fourth quarter.

Lindley kept the offense going, scoring the first two Sulphur Springs baskets of the final quarter, one of which came on an assist from Ivery. Ivery turned around and knocked down a 3-pointer a few minutes later, and the Lady Cats cruised to a 52-34 win.

Lindley was the leading scorer for Sulphur Springs, finishing with 14 points. Twelve of her 14 points came during the second half while the Lady Cats were building their lead.

Right behind her was Ivery, Myles and Willis who all had 11 points each. Nine of Willis’ 11 points came in the second half, while six of Myles’ 11 points came in the second quarter.

Addisyn Wall and Serenity Lewis each had two points, while Addyson Lamb had one point.

The win makes the Lady Cats 7-4 on the season and gives them a 4-2 record in district play. In that span they have beaten Pine Tree, 41-12; Hallsville, 60-33; Longview, 49-26; and now Texas High, 52-34.
