Lady Cats get 1st district win at home

SULPHUR SPRINGS—The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats hosted Marshall Tuesday for their second district game of the season. The Lady Cats entered the game with a 2-0 record at home.

Things didn’t look good early for the Lady Cats, as they dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-23. Looking to avoid being swept, Sulphur Springs was able to take the third set, 25-19, before taking the fourth set as well, 25-13.

In the fifth and final set the Lady Cats had all the momentum and were able to use it to take the set, 15-8, giving them the 3-2 win.

Senior Sadie Washburn and junior Brooklynn Burnside led the way offensively, finishing with 22 kills and 15 kills respectively. The next closest was Mahogany Roberson from Marshall who had nine kills.

Washburn also had six aces, six digs and one block, while Burnside had four digs, three blocks and one ace.

Junior Peyton Hammack had a great game, setting her teammates up with 43 assists in the game. Hammack also tied with Laney Hurst for most digs in the game with 14. Junior Parris Pickett was just behind them 12. Hammack and Hurst each had four aces as well.

Among notable contributors for the Lady Cats was senior Caroline Hurley, who had four kills and a pair of blocks. Nylah Lindley finished the game with three kills, while Addisyn Wall had one kill and four digs.

The win makes the Lady Cats 1-1 in district play and keeps them undefeated at home so far this season.The Lady Cats have Tuesday off before returning to play next Friday.
