Lady Cats fall in area round of playoffs

Hammack tallies 24 assists

ROYSE CITY - The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats traveled to Royse City Tuesday to face North Forney in the area round of the playoffs. The Lady Cats got to the area round by beating Tyler High School 3-0 in the opening round.

The opening set was closely contested, with the Lady Cats keeping things close the entire way. North Forney was able to hold their lead, however, taking the opening set by a score of 25-19.

North Forney kept the momentum going into the second set, taking it by double-digits, with the final score being 25-13. The Lady Cats tried to fight off a three-set sweep, making things very tough in the final set, but North Forney ultimately pulled it out, 25-22.

Senior Sadie Washburn led the way for the Lady Cats, posting 15 kills and four blocks. Washburn also had seven digs in the 3-0 loss.

Behind her was junior Brooklynn Burnside, who

finished with six kills. Burnside also turned in a game-high five blocks.

Setting things up was junior Peyton Hammack, who had a strong 24-assist performance. Hammack had six digs as well.

Senior Nylah Lindley played a big contribution on offense as well, turning in four blocks for the Lady Cats.

Other contributors for Sulphur Springs were Parris Pickett, nine digs, two assists and one kill; Addisyn Wall, eight digs, two kills and one block; Laney Hurst, four digs; Mali Maeker, three digs; Bre’Asia Ivery, three digs; Caroline Hurley, one dig; and Kaslyn Hurley who had one block.

The Lady Cats finish their season after going 10-2 in district play, winning the district championship and going 9-0 at home.
