Lady Cats fall 3-0 to Lindale Friday

LINDALE — Playing on the road was not kind to the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats as they lost twice away from home last week.

Friday, Oct. 18, the Sulphur Springs girls were swept by district foe Lindale. The Lady Eagles won by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-15.

Lady Cat standouts were Sadie Washburn with 11 kills and Peyton Hammack with 11 digs. Czhela Moya served for two aces, and Brooklynn Burnside contributed three blocks.

The junior varsity Lady Cats lost 15-25, 25-18 and 22-15. The freshmen squad won 25-17, 22-25 and 25-20 according to coach Bailey Dorner.

Sulphur Springs, now 22-15 on the season, 3-4 in district. The Lady Cats host Greenville Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the SSHS gym. Sulphur Springs will play starting at 5 p.m. with the freshmen and junior varsity with the varsity to play at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Cats play Friday, Oct. 25 at Mount Pleasant and conclude the regular slate of district games Tuesday, Oct. 29 at home against Texas High.

Volleyball report

The Cumby Lady Trojans won in five sets Friday, Oct. 18 in district volleyball action over North Hopkins.

Cumby won by scores of 27-25, 21-25, 25-18, 23-25 and 15-13. As a team they recorded 52 kills, 44 assists and 20 digs. Top players were Neely Hammond, Heather McCraw, Erin Morgan and Rylee Krotky.

In other volleyball action in the county, Sulphur Bluff won 25-23, 20-25, 25-19 and 25-16 over Clarksville in Tuesday, Oct. 15 district competition.

Hannah Byrd had 10 service points; Ann Dorner added 13 points, 11 kills and led the team in digs; Dalena di Dona-to contributed 12 kills; Alley Collett added 33 assists, seven points and two kills; Skylar Stanley turned in eight kills and three blocks.
