MOUNT PLEASANT — The Lady Cats scored a hard-fought road district volleyball Friday at Mount Pleasant and clinched a postseason playoff berth.

Sulphur Springs won by varsity scores of 25-22, 19-25, 25-18 and 25-13. Standouts include Sadie Washburn with 14 kills, Erika VanBenthem, 12 kills and Brooklynn Burnside, five blocks.

The junior varsity Lady Cats lost 18-25 and 19-25. The freshmen won 25-23 and 25-23, according to Baily Dorner, Lady Cats head volleyball coach.

“We are in the playoffs for sure. We are tied with Royse City at the moment. If we both win Tuesday, we will have a playoff for seeding on Friday,” Dorner said. “We didn’t play great at Mount Pleasant, but we still got the win. I think not having school that day put us in a funk.”

The Lady Cats will host Texas High Tuesday at the SSHS gym. Senior night activities are set, beginning at 6 p.m. Seniors to be honored Tuesday include: Kayle Malone, Erika VanBenthem, Aliyah Abron, Braely Vickery and Sydney Washburn.
