Lady Cats beat Greenville in playoff warmup game

Continue momentum heading into postseason

The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats hosted Greenville Tuesday for a playoff warm up game. The Lady Cats ended their season as district champs, going 10-2 in district play.

Sulphur Springs started the night strong, taking the opening set by a score of 25- 19. The momentum slowed down for the Lady Cats and they were outscored 25-8 in the second set.

The third set was very close with neither team able to gain an advantage over the other. Coming down to the wire, Sulphur Springs was able to take the set by a score of 28-26.

With their backs against the wall, Greenville was able to press for a fifth set, taking the fourth set 25-18.

In the fifth and final set, the Lady Cats were able to walk away with the win, outscoring Greenville 15-11.

Senior Sadie Washburn added to her impressive season, leading the team in kills (28), digs (15) and aces (5). Washburn also racked up three blocks in the 3-2 win.

Junior Brooklynn Burnside had a great game as well, finishing with a game-high nine blocks. Burnside also had 14 kills, four aces and one dig.

Setting things up was junior Peyton Hammack who had an outstanding 41-assist game. The next closest in assists was Greenville’s Sydney Walker, who finished with 23. Hammock also put up 14 digs, two aces and one block.

The Lady Cats had a number of defensive standouts, including junior Parris Pickett, sophomore Laney Hurst and senior Bre’Asia Ivery, who all finished with double-digits in digs. Pickett had 13 digs, as well as three assists and one block. Hurst had 12 digs, four aces and one kill, while Ivery had 10 digs.

Other notables for Sulphur Springs were Addisyn Wall; eight digs, three kills and one block; Kaslyn Hurley; three blocks, two kills and one dig; Nylah Lindley; two digs, one kill and one block; and Caroline Hurley who had one dig.
