History making season ends

Fresh off a Regional Championship victory against Miller Grove, the Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears traveled to the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland to take on the Fayetteville Lady Lions in the State Semifinals. Both teams were making their first appearances in the state tournament.

After the first set started off with a 3-3 tie, the Lady Lions would go on a 12-2 scoring run to jump out to a 15-5 lead. Though the Lady Bears would have a few short scoring runs, the Lady Lions would hold on for a 25-13 victory in the first set.

The first set started off similarly to the first set, as both teams tied at 2-2 early on. After that, the Lady Lions stepped up their game once again, going on a 15-7 scoring run to establish a 17-9 victory. Though two quick Sulphur Bluff points would trim the lead to 17-11, Fayetteville finished the set with an 8-5 scoring run, winning the second set 25-16.

Fayetteville would continue their dominant momentum by establishing a 6-1 lead to start the third set. Though the Lady Bears would trim the lead to 7-3, the Lady Lions finished the set with a 18-7 scoring run to win the third set 25-10, completing the sweep. With the loss, Sulphur Bluff ’s history making season came to an end. They finished with a combined record of 26-10.

This would be the final volleyball game for six Sulphur Bluff seniors: Lydia Drummond, Allie Eason, Cassidi Froneberger, Dacee Howse, Tori Raine, and Skylar Stanley.
