Lady Bears take victory in walk-fest

Had two double-digit innings

SULPHUR BLUFF — The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears picked up a huge victory Tuesday with a 24-4 home beatdown of the Campbell Lady Indians. In a game defined my a lot of walks and both teams struggling in the pitching department, the Lady Bears took advantage of Campbell’s miscues and came away with a blowout victory.

The Lady Indians stepped up to the plate first, where they faced Emma Neal in the circle. Campbell would quickly gain two base runners following a walk and a single. Following a strikeout, the Lady Indians would hit an RBI single, giving them a 1-0 lead. This was followed by a pair of fielder’s choice outs, ending the Lady Indians’ turn.

The Lady Bears came to the plate next, and quickly gained two base runners when Ana Servin and Neal both walked. On the next at-bat, Emma Carr hit an RBI single, bringing Servin home and tying the score at 1-1. The bases soon loaded after Jayden Forester walked.

Dylan Strain walked on the next at-bat, bringing Neal home and giving the Lady Bears a 2-1 lead. This was followed by Madi Collett getting hit by a pitch, bringing Carr home and raising the score to 3-1. After Savannah Kelley struck out, Emerson Fite walked, bringing Forester home and bringing the score to 4-1.

For the next at-bat, Skyler Sheffield walked, bringing Strain home and making the score 5-1. Soon after, Collett scored after stealing home, raising the score to 6-1. This was followed by Servin being walked for the second time.

Neal would hit an RBI single on the next at-bat, driving Fite home and raising the score to 7-1. This was followed by Carr being hit by a pitch, bringing Sheffield home and making the score 8-1. Soon after, Servin scored again after stealing home, bringing the score to 9-1.

After Forester hit a fly ball for an out, Strain would swat an RBI single, driving Neal home and raising the score to 10-1. Collett would ground out on the next at-bat, bringing the first inning to a close.

The second inning began with a ground out. Soon after, the Lady Indians gained three base runners following three consecutive walks. A fourth straight walk would give the Lady Indians a run, bringing the score to 10-2.

On the next at-bat, an RBI single resulted in another run for the Lady Indians, trimming the score to 10-3. Another run would be scored after the Lady Indians stole home, bringing the score to 10-4. After a walk, a double play would bring the Lady Indians’ turn to an end.

The bottom of the second started with Kelley walking. This was followed by Fite hitting a sacrifice RBI, driving Kelley home and extending the lead to 11-4. The bases loaded soon after when Sheffield and Servin walked, and Neal was hit by a pitch. Soon after, Carr walked, bringing Sheffield home and bringing the score to 12-4.

For the next at-bat, Forester hit an RBI single, driving Servin home and making the score 13-4. In the same sequence, Neal was tagged out advancing to third base. After Strain walked, Carr scored on a passed ball, bringing the score to 14-4. This was followed by Collett being walked.

Kelley would then be hit by a pitch, bringing Forester home and raising the score to 15-4. This was followed by Fite being walked, bringing Strain home and making the score 16-4. Soon after, Sheffield walked, bringing Collett home and bringing the score to 17-4.

Servin walked on the next at-bat, bringing Kelley home and raising the score to 18-4. Neal walked next, bringing Fite home and raising the score to 19-4. This was followed by Carr being walked, bringing Sheffield home and raising the lead to 20-4.

Servin would score next by stealing home, raising the score to 21-4. The bases loaded soon after when Forester was hit by a pitch. This was followed by Strain hitting a 3-RBI single, driving Neal, Carr, and Forester home and raising the already big lead to 24-4.

After Collett hit a single on the next at-bat, Kelley struck out, bringing the second inning to a close.

The Lady Indians began the third inning with a batter getting hit by pitch and a single. However, two strikeouts and a runner caught stealing brought the game to an end, as the Lady Bears closed out a 24-4 blowout win.

As a team, the Lady Bears batted 6 for 11 (.545) from the plate. Strain was the leading hitter with two hits, while Carr, Collett, Forester, and Neal added one hit each. The Lady Bears were also walked 18 times.

Servin was the leading scorer with four runs. Carr, Forester, Neal, and Sheffield all scored three runs each, while Collett, Fite, Kelley, and Strain scored two runs each.

Neal picked up the win in the circle. Over three innings, she recorded two strikeouts despite conceding six walks, four hits, and four earned runs.

With the win, the Lady Bears are up to 1-4 on the season. Their next game is Friday, when they welcome the Detroit Lady Eagles to Sulphur Bluff High School.
