Lady Bears to take on Lady Hornets in bi district

COMMERCE — The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears and the Miller Grove Lady Hornets will square off Monday, Feb. 17 in the bi district round of the playoffs. The game will be at 6 p.m. at Commerce High School.

The Lady Bears finished second in Class 1A District 24. Sulphur Bluff finished the season with a 20-12 record, going 8-3 in district play. Their district wins came against Avinger, 46-20; Avery, 42-38; Bloomburg, 67-12; Union Hill, 85-7; Avery, 47-42; Bloomburg, 61-33; Union Hill, 58-4; and Avinger, 54-38. Two of their three losses came against Saltillo who finished district play undefeated.

Sulphur Bluff enters the post season winning four of their last five games.

The Lady Hornets finished tied with Ector for second place, with the Lady Hornets being the 3-seed from Class 1A District 23.

Miller Grove finished the season with a 13-17 record, going 9–3 in district play. Their district resume includes wins over Yantis, 38-6; Savoy, 50-34; Fruitvale, 42-39; Fannindel, 55-26; Yantis, 56-11; Ector, 34-30; and Savoy, 41-24.

In games against common opponents, Sulphur Bluff has the upper hand, going 8-6, while Miller Grove went 4-8. Sulphur Bluff ’s wins in those games include beating North Hopkins, 48-43; Bloomburg, 67-12, and again, 61-33. They beat Yantis three times with final scores of 66-9, 74-14 and 74-36. They also beat Savoy 44-32. Miller Grove wins against common opponents came in their last four matchups, beating Yantis, 38-6, and again, 56-11. They also have a pair of wins against Savoy, beating them 50-34 and 41-24.

The winner of Monday night’s game will advance to the Area round where they will play Bryson, the winner of Class 1A District 21.
