SULPHUR BLUFF- The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears hosted Yantis Friday, Jan. 22 for their second in a pair of district matches this season. The Lady Bears won the first contest back on Jan. 7 by a final score of 61-30.

The Lady Bears opened the game with a ton of momentum, getting out to a quick 22-9 lead. Sulphur Bluff had an even better second quarter, outscoring Yantis 19-4 to take a 41-13 lead at the half.

The Lady Bears had another explosive quarter to start the second half, adding another 15 points to their lead. The scoring slowed down a bit in the fourth quarter, but they held Yantis to just two points in the frame, and they walked away with the 73-21 win.

Skylar Stanley had a huge game for the Lady Bears, finishing with 19 points and 14 rebounds despite fouling out midway through the third quarter. Also finishing in double-digits was Alley Collet who had 13 points, as well as five assists and four rebounds.

Bailey Neal and Jada Wade each had eight points. Wade was also able to grab eight rebounds while Neal had four steals and dished out three assists.

Tori Raine had a huge day on the boards, picking up 10 rebounds in the blowout win. Raine also had six points, four assists and four steals. Molly Kelley ended the game with five points, two rebounds, two steals and two assists.

“The team has been doing a great job pushing the ball up the court for some quick points,” coach Zandra Peyton said. “The girls are reading the other team’s defense and have been great at finding mismatches.”

Sulphur Bluff will be back in action with a road game against Union Hill Tuesday and then return home for their senior night game against Avery Friday. They are expected to start at 5:30 p.m. in their road game Tuesday and 6 p.m. for the senior night game against Avery.
